Habitat:

Wet pine savannas. A. longifolia and A. hirtella are closely related; the two taxa have sometimes been treated as distinct only at the rank of subspecies or as “very distinct varieties.”

Distribution

The range of Asclepias longifolia

BONAP does not recognize Asclepias hirtella as being distinct from A. longifolia. Therefore, the range map above includes both taxa. In general, the mid-western and inland populations are A. hirtella, and the Coastal Plain collections are A. longifolia.
